In short: the Daily Turkish iPhone app collects nothing. Your progress stays on your phone, there's no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
Daily Turkish is a free Turkish course made by Grégoire Maillard. It exists as an iPhone app and as a website (dailyturkish.app, also reachable from gregoiremaillard.com/turkish.html). This page explains what each one stores and where.
The iPhone app
- Your progress stays on your phone. Lessons done, XP, streak, flashcard schedules and settings are saved in the app's storage on your iPhone. They are never sent to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes them.
- Export and import. "Export progress" creates a file that you keep and share as you choose. "Import progress" reads such a file back. Nothing is uploaded.
- Daily reminder. If you turn it on, the app asks iOS for permission and schedules the reminders on your phone. Your chosen time is stored on the phone. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings or in the iPhone's Settings › Notifications.
- Speech. Turkish is read aloud by your iPhone's built-in voices, on the device.
- No account, no analytics, no ads. The app has no sign-in and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. The course is built into the app and works offline.
The website
- Progress is saved in your browser's local storage, the same way as in the app.
- Analytics. The website uses Google Analytics to count visits (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type). It also records when a lesson is finished, with its score, and how many flashcards were reviewed in a session. Your typed answers are never sent. See Google's privacy policy.
- Optional online profile. If you create one, your email address, the display name and character you choose, and your progress are stored with our database provider, Supabase, so that your progress follows you to other devices. Sign-in uses a link sent by email; there is no password. You can delete the profile at any time from My Profile, which erases the sign-in, the profile and the online progress.
Children
Daily Turkish is a general-audience course. The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
